This post is something I’m taking very seriously. There will be no jokes, no humour whatsoever. I will also warn anyone who reads this that it will contain disturbing content, especially the video that will accompany this post.
Yesterday a 22 year old male called Elliot Rodger shot and killed six people while also injuring seven others in Isla Vista. He is now dead from a bullet wound to the head, self-inflicted or a shot from one of the police officers pursuing him is still unknown.
Ordinarily, I wouldn’t write about something like this, these are subjects I don’t like writing about and, for the most part, will steer clear of. However, after watching the video accompanying this post, which is titled ‘Elliot Rodger’s Retribution’ and feeling nothing but genuine fear as I heard the words he spoke and how calmly he spoke them, I felt I could not keep my thoughts to myself on this tragedy.
I’m struggling to put things into words but the overriding thought I’m having is how scared I was while watching that video and how insane Elliot Rodger was.
What struck fear into me was the fact that he reminded me of a villain from a movie. A villain that you laugh at because you know that there couldn’t possibly be someone like that in real-life but when I heard his sickening laugh as he talked about ‘slaughter(ing)’ girls simply because he’d never had a girlfriend, I knew there was nothing to laugh about. The fact that someone can talk about being a ‘god’ over, who he perceived to be, ‘animals’ and talk about it seriously, petrifies me. How can anyone be so deluded? I cannot fathom what kind of issues or upbringing he had that could’ve led to mass murder.
I’m sorry, I can’t write anymore about this, I really cannot find the words.
My thoughts go out to the families of the victims of this awful event, I’m truly sorry for your losses.
