The Hunt For My Childhood: Games of the Past

Over the past few months I have been toying with the idea of searching for all of the consoles I once owned in the past and getting every single one and the games I loved to play the most. Up until now I had been unable to do this due to my lack of money. However my search began yesterday afternoon…

The first console on my list is the Nintendo Gamecube purely because it is the platform that brought my favourite game, Super Mario Sunshine. So yesterday I purchased said game online and am currently awaiting it’s delivery. I also have the console on it’s way from the most unlikeliest of people, my Grandad. He just happens to have one lying around in his house and has very kindly said I can have it.

The reason why I want to gather together all the old consoles I used to play is because those games made my childhood great. I felt genuine happiness when playing these games. Some may say, ‘Why not just play them on an emulator?’ but it’s not the same. I would much rather hold a Gameboy in my hand and buy countless batteries rather than tapping on a keyboard to fight the Pokemon League.

My list at the moment isn’t that long, I’m focusing on only my favourites for the time being, so the list currently looks like this:

Nintendo GameCube: Super Mario Sunshine, Pokemon Coliseum, Phantasy Star Online, Mario Kart Double Dash, Sonic Battle Adventure 2, Spiderman.

Sony Playstation 2: GTA: San Andreas, Burnout 3.

Sega Dreamcast: Sonic

Sony Playstation 1: Mortal Kombat, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Digimon World and Digimon World 3.

Nintendo Gameboy/Gameboy Colour: Pokemon Blue, Red and Yellow. Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Time.

Nintendo Gameboy Advance: Final Fantasy Tactics, Onimusha Tactics (I have this one already :D), Fire Emblem, Yu-Gi-Oh: Reshef of Destruction and Yoshi’s Island.

So that’s how the list currently stands. These are my favourite consoles and games that are a must have for me. Let’s see if I can get them all 😀

Being Alone Sucks

On the 5th of June I had to say goodbye to a lot of people. Moving over 200 miles away from everyone you hold dear isn’t exactly the easiest thing to do, especially when you didn’t have a choice in the matter. I’m sure many people have had to do the same, leave all your friends behind, your home, your life. But the knowledge that others have done the same doesn’t really provide any comfort. People say, ‘You’ll be fine’ ‘You’ll make new friends’ but I don’t want to make new friends, why would I? I already have the best, why should I settle for anything else?

I went back recently to visit and it didn’t hit me how much I had actually missed everyone until I saw them. I had an amazing few days with them and I was nearly in tears when I had to say goodbye yet again.

I don’t know why I’m writing this maybe I just get tired of having things in my head. But the reason doesn’t matter I suppose. It’s here now.

Should my friends see this I want you to know I really am missing every single one of you and I hope you’re all alright. Liam, Becky, Fletch, Lauren, Amber, Anisa, Chelsea, keep me updated, yeah? Any little things just let me know please.

They probably won’t see it anyway. Oh well, I guess that’s all I’ve got for this one.

Offence Rules the World.

Offensive behaviour, words, content etc. has been massively blown out of proportion over the past few years. There’s very little anyone can say anymore without someone screaming ‘Offence’. It’s getting out of control. Obviously I’m not saying just let people say whatever they damn well please because there are limits. Racism, sexism, attacks against specific religions, these are the major limits required. Then there’s insulting other people, whether it be on appearance, intellect or anything else; that’s not right in an aggressive fashion. However it’s all about the context and the way something is said. Some people find certain jokes offensive which is fair enough but that doesn’t mean the joke should be banned. Different things offend different people. It’s impossible to say something that wouldn’t offend at least one person. If you’re offended by something then be offended but don’t start a rampage against the thing that’s offended you because that just gives birth to more aggression and pointless energy being wasted. Be offended. It’s not a bad thing to be. It just shows you’re different and unique to everyone else in the world. Be offended and be glad.

Thoughts on Humans

The Human race is quite possibly one of the most complex things imaginable. It’s an endless sea of oxymorons. It’s happy, it’s sad. It creates, it destroys. It lives and it dies. It’s perhaps the most amazing and yet the most ordinary thing that we’ve ever known.

I only write this post today because I’ve had these thoughts for a while and I’m getting kind of tired of them just floating around in my head. In complete seriousness though I am forever astounded at the world and those inhabiting it for both good and bad reasons.

I’ll mostly be focusing on the good aspects of Humans today though.

For those of you that are very religious you may not agree with what I may say in regards to how I describe people and the things they’ve achieved but that doesn’t mean you won’t agree with my view on just how amazing people are. People are the greatest thing to ever come into existence, whether it be through evolution or if some deity put us here, I don’t care; the fact remains we exist and that’s all that matters. The very subject on how we came into being just shows the brilliance of people. We won’t ever be the same as one another, we will always disagree and have different opinions. We have people who believe that some greater power created the universe and gave us everything we see today. That belief is something worth admiration regardless of if it’s true or not, to be able to stay loyal to your faith no matter what is said to you or counter argument is put forward is amazing. The same with those who aren’t religious, those who strive to understand the world through science and research, always working to unravel the secrets of the universe.

Then we have people who just live to make others happy, those who just make you happy without even knowing, those who smile at even the hardest times and those who keep trying no matter what life throws at them.

We have the inventors, the poets, the creators of film, music, art, literature. So many creative people. Geniuses of their individual fields, inspirations to all. We have people who see the beauty of anyone and everyone, we have those who are the most beautiful but can’t even see it themselves.

Humans love, we stand by those we care about. We sacrifice for others, we hurt for others. We stand tall against any attack, we defend those who can’t do it themselves.

I could really go on all day about the unbelievable awesomazingness of people. And yes I know awesomazingness isn’t a word but I like it. And I also know that Humans aren’t all good either but I think we should all just realise how amazing Humans are for once. In this world of darkness and hate, why can we not just see the shining light that people offer? See that light and smile.

To put all this simply, I love people.

Results Mania.

People will be receiving results around the country in a few hours. A lot of those people are stressed out over if they will pass or fail. To those people I say, chill out.

There is absolutely no point in getting worked up over a piece of paper. Why should the results you get from a silly exam make you stress so much? And why must it decide your future? If you pass, you pass and if you fail then you fail. It doesn’t matter. Young people these days are being programmed into thinking that good grades mean everything and that the most important thing is to pass your exams. Why?

I cannot for the life of me figure out what went wrong with the world. Why are young people just not allowed to live how young people should? We should be smiling everyday, laughing and just living. Young people don’t get to be young anymore; we’re forced into a ‘mature’ state of mind, where we must worry about the future and how we will get jobs and survive. In all honesty I’d rather not.

I don’t need to get a ‘good’ job or have a ‘nice’ house, I don’t need to stress over how I’ll get money or what I’m going to do in the future. When did the world lose faith in it’s younger generation? We can work it out on our own; we don’t need the constant nagging.

I truly hate the way these silly results affect people, good people. Why must I watch my friends cry simply because of an exam? It isn’t right. I look at my friends and think, ‘You’re amazing, so why are you so worried?’

Anyway, seriously we all need to just take a step back and realise not everything hangs on these results. Nothing is decided in the next few hours. No-one will think less of you if you fail and you are guaranteed my respect for even attempting these exams; I can only hope everyone else respects you too.

A Rethink on this Blog…

I was planning on just using this blog as a way to share my views on gaming but I’ve come to the conclusion that eventually I’ll just run out of things to say. And they’re so many things that get me worked up and I need somewhere to rant, so I’ll probably post about random topics that catch my eye from time to time as well as anything related to the field of gaming.
